Perhaps the greatest failure
of organized religion is its
desire
to compete, conquer, and erase.
Jesus tried to lift his own
people's faith beyond the limits
for which they had settled.
By and large, this offer was
refused.
Too much of Christianity –
structural outcome of this
rejection –
has taken more of a cue
from other institutions
and less from the messiah.
We fall into the oxymoronic pit
of ego, convinced that grace
is both "all that" and
yet a prize
that has been conferred because
we,
above all others, earned and
deserve it.
The ark sails without us, again.
