Always

The older I get,
the more I realize
how important words are

   for re-connecting us
   to who we were
   before we were born,

      who we're meant
      to be in this life,
      who we're meant
      to be to one another,

   and who we'll be
   in the end,
   all of whom
   are the same.

  1. Thank you for this as I go to be with a woman close to ending her life -- I will talk and she won't even understand my words, just feel the flow of them over her.

    1. Those are the sacred moments when we are free enough or desperate enough or both, to realize that there's more to our words than our own or others' understanding, in the sighs too deep for words that fill in the empty spaces between the words.
