Grace is the gift that, paradoxically,
breaks all false sense
of connection (Good has happened
to me because I did/thought/believed
the right thing.)
and weaves connections
that are too good to be true,
yet true anyway (I'm loved,
not because of who/what
I am/have done,
but because of who God is.)
It lets us open our lives
as a department store,
instead of as a dry goods store.
When we recognize that,
on our own, we'll never be
best or perfect, we don't
have to keep others at arm's length,
only revealing what we perceive
to be our "acceptable" side.
It becomes safe to let others
wander through all our departments,
even those that are still
in a shambles.
